Lennox Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Grimes, Iowa
A homeowner on Northwest Beechwood Drive in Grimes, Iowa wanted a simple way to make the garage comfortable year-round. Rather than extending the home’s central HVAC ductwork into the space, C&K installed a dedicated Lennox/Samsung ductless mini-split heat pump.
The result is a clean, efficient system that provides both heating and air conditioning while keeping the garage usable, uncluttered, and comfortable through Iowa’s temperature extremes.
The System
This installation uses a 1.5-ton Lennox/Samsung ductless system:
- Indoor unit: MWMD018S6-1P
- Outdoor unit: MWLD018S6S-1P
- Efficiency: Up to 21 SEER2, 9.7 HSPF2, and 13.2 EER2
- Heating operation: Down to approximately -22°F
- Cooling operation: Up to approximately 115°F
- Wi-Fi control: Built in through the Samsung SmartThings app
The variable-capacity outdoor unit can adjust its output to match the actual heating or cooling demand instead of operating only at full capacity. That helps the system maintain steadier temperatures while reducing noise and unnecessary energy use.
The indoor unit can operate at sound levels as low as approximately 23 dBA, making ductless equipment a strong option for garages that are also used as workshops, gyms, hobby spaces, or extended living areas.
A Clean Installation Matters
Good HVAC work is about more than installing the equipment.
Inside the garage, the ductless head was mounted high on the wall to distribute conditioned air effectively while preserving floor and wall space.
Outside, the heat pump was installed on a dedicated equipment base above the surrounding landscape rock. The refrigerant and control lines were routed through protective white line-hide with straight runs and clean transitions that complement the recently built home.
The goal is for the finished installation to look intentional—not like mechanical equipment was added as an afterthought.
Why a Mini-Split Works Well in a Garage
Ductless heat pumps are particularly useful for garages, workshops, additions, bonus rooms, and other areas that are difficult to serve with a traditional central HVAC system.
A mini-split allows the homeowner to control the temperature of that individual space without heating or cooling the entire home differently.
For this Grimes homeowner, one compact system now provides dedicated garage heating and air conditioning throughout the year.
Installed and Optimized by C&K
After installation, C&K performs system testing and performance optimization to verify that the equipment is operating as intended.
That distinction matters. Equipment can be installed and technically running without being properly adjusted for performance, efficiency, and comfort. Our objective is to deliver a complete system that works correctly and is simple for the homeowner to own.
This project also includes C&K’s 12-month Worry-Free workmanship guarantee and 12 months of same-day priority emergency service for the new system.
